Hebrews 11:33-40 says;
Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Heb 11:34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: Heb 11:36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: Heb 11:37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; Heb 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy
they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
Heb 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
Heb 11:40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
I wanted to begin the study of Resurrection in Hebrews chapter 11 verse 35 as you can see above: if there's a better resurrection that means there could be a poorer resurrection. This is the faith chapter of testimony. Where the faith of the Old Testament believers was memorialized forever in the Word of God! SO-Resurrection must be tied to faith! AND when I saw this in the Word I felt like Moses when he saw the burning bush! The bush was burning but not being consumed so he turned to look at it. When I saw this verse, I turned to look at it more carefully...
I felt a good place to look into the Word about this was that the resurrection of Lazarus and the discussion of the Lord's death. Let's now turn to John chapter 12. The other versions of this
testimony can be found in Matthew 26:6, Mark 14:3, and Luke 7:36.
John 12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. John 12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. John 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. John 12:4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, John 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? John 12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. John 12:7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. John 12:8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always. John 12:9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
Now we know from the other versions of the story that I cited in the beginning of
this teaching, explained that Mary was a sinner. We can derive from this that she was more than likely a prostitute in that era, and since spikenard is an ointment to anoint a dead body, she may have had some fear of death, and wanted to be anointed upon her death with the ointment. (And maybe also to show everyone that she had the money for this expensive ointment.)
But when she witnessed the Lord Jesus Christ— the author of life, raise Lazarus from the dead, in her heart she knew that death wasn't the end of life. She recognized that He is Lord of the Resurrection. Moreover He IS the Resurrection! Those are the words from his own mouth! We find that in John11:25 where it says, Jesus said unto her, I AM the resurrection and the life: he that believest in me though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever live and believe me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Now that this Mary believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God she is so grateful that she no longer has to fear death that she uses her ointment for him! She pours out what she has, doing what she can for him. In Mark's version of the story we read in Mark 14:8 she has done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body for the burying. We should all be doing what we can!
We started out this study in Hebrews Chapter 11, where all the testimonies of those who have had great faith are set out as a Memorial. NowMary and her deed too is set out is a Memorial with this testimony, Matthew Mark and Luke all say the words that Jesus said at the end of their reporting of the incident: verily I say unto you wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a Memorial of her.
In the rendition from Luke chapter 7 starting with verse 36 and going to the end of the chapter we get a lot of detail which was left out of other versions. However each one of the versions gives us details to complete the story for understanding many facets of the resurrection, faith and healing and salvation.
Luke 7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. Luke 7:37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, Luke 7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. Luke 7:40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. Luke 7:41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. Luke 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Luke 7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. Luke 7:44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Luke 7:45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in
hath not ceased to kiss my feet. Luke 7:46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Luke 7:47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Luke 7:48 And he said unto her,
Thy sins are forgiven. Luke 7:49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? Luke 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
To begin with less start off by saying that in Luke's version the Lord is sitting at the table of the Pharisee named Simon who we find out from the other versions was a leper. Obviously the Lord healed him or he wouldn't be in his house, nor would anyone else. So he was forgiven much and healed much and yet, we read that he started to look at the Lord and doubt that he was even a prophet (vs. 39). So Jesus tells them a parable which teaches them all a lesson regarding faith, healing and salvation. The last verse in the chapter verse 50, says that her faith saved her! He tells her to go in peace.
Everyone at the table was looking down their noses at Mary because they knew her sins. Her sins were known by many! They were spectators and in the watching of her actions missed that it was ministry she gave to the Lord. And they missed that! Spectators are not participators with the Spirit of God!
But Mary didn't care what they thought of her-she knew they were right! But she gave Him the only expensive thing she had. She had stored up for herself this expensive ointment to have it poured on her dead body to prepare her for the afterlife she thought was awaiting her. The only way for her to get the last expression of wealth, even though she had gotten it through sin.
In her bitter state of society's rejection she would be buried in style! She also gives up this distorted conclusion of herself because THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE showed up! Everything changed for her! She got hope! She saw Truth and He gave her faith! AND because He is the Way too, He gave her salvation! WOW!
Now that Mary’s sins are forgiven her she can go in peace and not concern herself with her death, and not concern herself with the fancy funeral and costly spikenard ointment for her dead body. She now has something to live for! She now has someone to die to herself for!
So this must be the kind of faith that makes it worthy to be considered a Memorial for someone.
This is how we attain to a better resurrection! We get the example of the Old Testament saints who have been memorialized for their faith in Hebrews Chapter 11. And as the Lord often does he gave us an example in the New Testament of how you can become counted among the memorialized.
In this way we can see that though our sins may be many, and we could be in the presence of great people of faith who are walking without sin, we can humble ourselves, do what it is we can do no matter what they might say about us or think about us—
risking it all, we just do what we feel to do! Give up our own plans for ourselves, give up our own way of doing things, give up things we feel are important, give up our sin, put our faith in Jesus Christ and be forever grateful that he has accepted us, forgiven us, healed us, saved us, and given us resurrection and life.
Because I tell you when Jesus the Messiah, (Y’shua Ha Maschiach) comes into your heart to dwell there, you have received the resurrection and life – – not just life here but eternal life because there is more to come after death of our physical bodies on this planet. I too desire to enter the next realm of life with a better Resurrection! I too desire to be memorialized because of my faith! Don't you?
The Lord begins warning His people about the ways of the Canaanites, and all the other “ites” from the very beginning. We saw that Abraham would not allow Isaac to choose a wife from among the Canaanites.
Deuteronomy 7 is clear: 1When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them: 3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. 5But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. 6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
What are the practices of the “ites” that the people of God are to stay away from? In verse 4 it says that they will turn thy son away from following me, that they may serve other gods. (And God is willing to destroy a parent for allowing it.)
So what are the ways that an “ite” does this? First, can sex be an idol? YES! It is one of the very big of the biggies! What all does serving this idol represent? Well, I am not an expert on this, however, I know it would include the following practices: orgies, and acts performed during them, oral/anal copulation, sexual and sensual dancing and stripping and the use of sexual implements to enhance pleasure. ( I believe that is what Rachel brought from her homeland and is the reason she died during childbirth.) (I KNOW, you’ve never heard this taught before! Why not? It is so important to God!)
To fully answer the question, “What practices?” and to prove it out scripturally, we should understand the curse of the woman at the garden. Genesis 3:14-16 shows us that because the woman is included in the curse of the serpent, we must include it in our understanding of the curse against the woman.
14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
16Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
So the devil is directly against the woman. This may very well be the number one reason that the woman has been so cruelly treated in every culture of the world. Also, it is the reason why rape is the most common form of attack upon a woman. The first sin of Eve brought on the top dog devil directly against her and her kind.
Next, we must understand the “multiply thy sorrow and thy conception” part of the curse of God on woman. The multiplication of sorrow is to make her emotional, more emotional than God’s original design; or a propensity toward unhealthy emotions if you will.
Then, multiply thy conception; the way in which a woman conceives is vaginally. Now if the devil himself is against a woman through his curse and the woman’s conception is increased, what is God allowing the enemy to do to the woman?
To answer this I would like to introduce the definition of sodomy as found in the dictionary.
sodomy noun Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French sodomie, from Late Latin Sodoma Sodom; from the homosexual proclivities of the men of the city in Genesis 19:1-11 Date: 13th century anal or oral copulation with a member of the same or opposite sex; also copulation with an animal • sodomitic or sodomitical adjective
The anal or oral copulation with the same or opposite sex. (Also, with an animal.)
This is multiplication of conception. The childbirth thing is separate. Be not deceived.
Sodom and Gomorra was not only about homosexuality, it was not the only evil that God hated and destroyed the cities for. It is about people operating under the curse blatantly, without thought or fear of God.
The word fornication is used over and over again by God in His judgments of His people, and specifically in His judgments of leadership. We see further, the Laws of God which are written in Numbers 26:1-36:13, were given in the plains of Moab.
Balaam figured out how to bring the Israelites to curse themselves by telling the evil King Balak to send his women to them. Their sexual practices which are associated with worship of their gods, puts them in direct alliance with the curse of God. So God himself is bound by His Word to consider them cursed. Hence the plague arrives on the scene.
Why I Do What I Do
What happens to me very, very often is that I see things going on within the Christian culture which brings me to the depth of despair, and I weep and cry out…
But then the LORD receives my prayers and shows me by His Spirit the scriptures where He warns the people of such things and that they are not new things. And His warnings are still being ignored.
I cry even more for the fact that we continue to repeat bad history.
Let’s go to Luke 9: 37, and we’ll go through verse 50.
37And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. 38And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. 39And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. 40And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. 41And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. 42And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
43And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, 44Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. 45But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. 46Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. 47And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, 48And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. 49And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. 50And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
Y’shua was basically giving them the lesson of deliverance and the casting out of demons from God’s troubled people. Earlier He had given them authority over ALL: verse 1 in the same chapter says: 1Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 2And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 3And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. 4And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. 5And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
There’s a lot I could teach about here but to keep this on the subject of why I do what I do, I will only talk about the men who were casting out demons and John forbade them. THAT is the important lesson here for discussion today.
Y’shua told the disciples not to stop the men who were casting out demons in His Name and said that those who were not against us were for us. That’s because all things work together for good to them that love God and are the called according to His purposes. BUT, we also know that if God has no one else to use to save our lives He will allow a donkey to speak a warning…
Mathew 7:21-27: 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
To really understand what God is trying to get through to us we have to take note of several points:
In the verses we just looked at in Matthew we see something that gives clarity to much of this.
Y’shua says that MANY in that day will say to Him, “Lord, Lord.”
But He tells them to depart from Him. He says He never knew them.
He is speaking to us about that day… Judgement day at the White Throne. Each man has that day. All things are reckoned. There is an account made for all of a man’s works.
In THAT DAY He tells them to depart from Him. He says their works are iniquity. But He instructed His disciples not to stop them.
Right. He will use all things. BUT— God forbid we are doing things for the wrong motivation. THAT is what causes our works to be iniquity.
The five false voices in the congregation:
Verse 9 says, 9Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: 10For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.
We see from this that there are 5 other voices within the congregations of God’s people—other than the true voice of the true prophetic voice…
All of the false voices are connected to those hearing seducing spirits who are working against the saints to draw them away from God. These men/women are usually still operating with their wounds and have not had inner healing. They also have major sin in their life, such as: a faulty foundation. They are not established in the LORD because their foundation is in Babylon. Often, they are of Baal. They suffer from wrong motives, and often do all the right things for all the wrong reasons. They are in pride, looking for a platform in which to become famous among people. Since their foundation is in Babylon, they too desire to build a tower to reach God, but not to be with the glorious King of the Universe, but to make a name for themselves among the people. (See Genesis chapter eleven.)
We have the false prophet, who tells leadership what they want to hear.
We have the diviners who provide answers that are derived from a source other than that of the LORD for things like a false peace that is gained thru “yoga” for instance. They look for helping others in things like acupuncture for healing. These practices cannot be “Christianized”.
There are the dreamers who are intoxicated by “spirits” and have dreams that they claim to be from God and are not, but they give direction to leadership and also to the people.
As for the enchanters, they bring forth false teachings that lead people away from the truth of God’s Word. The teachings are closely related to truth because there are some truths mingled into them.
The sorcerers among us are those who virtually conjure up spirits. There is a ministry leader who laid on the grave of a famous healer until he received the man’s spirit…this is sorcery!!! Another musician, (who calls himself a worship leader and sells extraordinary amounts of CD’s per year), also laid on a grave to receive the man’s anointing…sorcerer!!!
In verse 14 of II Chronicles 36 noted above, we see that the chief of the priests and the people polluted the hallowed house of the LORD. This is when they Christianize forms of worship to evil gods such as Karate, (and all of the martial arts), yoga, pilates and other forms of discipline offered to evil gods, and acupuncture which is a personal physical offering to an evil god! Also lumped in the mix are things like, co-habitation with members of the opposite sex, and fornication, (which is oral or anal sex). (I know, “everybody does it”, so it must be OK. But it is NOT OK, these are evil practices in the eyes of the LORD.)
Verses 15 and 16 show us that the LORD in His mercy and love for His people sent messengers, (like me in this hour), to warn the people of their disobedience and they mocked them and misused them inciting the wrath of God until THERE WAS NO REMEDY…
The false voices among the people which had audience with leadership, the rebellion of leadership to heed the true prophets, and the stiff-necked leaders who refused to go into bondage as was spoken of by Jeremiah, and the pollution of the temple…no remedy for these issues.
If we want to operate in truth, we must admit that the voices in the current congregational climate are of the false variety for the most part, and God’s people seem to scarf all of it down without batting a lash. Baal prophets spew their doctrines of demons over the television airwaves and they go unchallenged by mainstream recognized leadership. But they too live like rock stars and it seems to be about the hour where the tables of the money changers are to be turned over…
So, where is the good news? The great thing about serving such a perfect God is that He has a plan of restoration in place long before He ever brings His own people into bondage. So in II Chronicles 36 we know that after the land fulfilled a Sabbath rest of 70 years, a King came into power.
Just as the LORD gave great favor to Esther not only with the King but also with the eunuch over the harem, Hegai, in order to prevent the total destruction of the Jews; He also made a way for the Jews to return to Israel after they were taken into captivity. Let’s read about it:
22Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, 23Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
King Cyrus is the son of Esther the Queen of Persia! It is written in some ancient records and also can be deciphered by counting the years and equating them to the time of her reign. This was a great sign and wonder for me! To find out that King Cyrus was ½ Jewish and was a man of God just filled my heart with gratitude to the LORD for how great He is and how magnificent are His plans!
By putting Esther in place as queen, giving her and King Ahasuerus a son who would grow up to know Him and to rule Babylon, He ensured the restoration of Israel even before it all happened!
We must believe that even though we are in the end of days we will see the miraculous and merciful God of our fathers bring us out of our bondage too! We must hold fast to our faith as the coming events unfold…BE ENCOURAGED!
SO TO SUM ALL THESE THINGS UP:
I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE WE ARE WITNESSING THE GREAT FALLING AWAY AND I SEE IT. I KNOW THAT THE LORD DESIRES THAT ALL SHOULD BE SAVED AND NONE PERISH SO I TEACH HOW TO DISCERN THE REAL FROM THE FALSE…
